چکیده

We present several analytical properties of Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR) based all-pole models that demonstrate the advantages and usefulness of these models for speech spectral coding. In particular, we show that a sufficient order MVDR all-pole model provides a spectral envelope that fits a set of spectral samples exactly with a parameterization convenient for quantization purposes. In addition, we show that MVDR allpole filters provide a monotonically decreasing spectral distortion with increasing filter order. Furthermore, we show that the MVDR all-pole filter possesses the flexibility to be obtained from correlations based upon either spectral samples or conventional timedomain correlations. Finally, exploiting the insight gained from MVDR modeling, we introduce a novel class of constrained allpole models for efficient spectral coding. In this approach, a subset of the Line Spectral Frequency (LSF) parameters associated with the all-pole model are judiciously fixed, leading to a simpler model parameterization.

Minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR) modeling of voiced speech

In this paper we propose the MVDR method, which is based upon the Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR) spectrum estimation method, for modeling voiced speech. Developed to overcome some of the shortcomings of Linear Prediction models, the MVDR method provides better models for medium and high pitch voiced speech. The MVDR model is an all-pole model whose spectrum is easily obtained f...

Comparison of spectral estimation techniques for low bit-rate speech coding

Many low bit-rate speech coders represent the spectral envelope by an all-pole digital filter whose coefficients are calculated by a form of linear prediction (LP) analysis. The lower the bit-rate, the more critical will be the accuracy of the spectral analysis for achieving good quality speech. This paper compares four known techniques: a technique based on cubic spline interpolation, DAP, MVD...

Warping and Scaling of the Minimum Variance Distortionless Response

Spectral estimation based on the minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR) is well-known in the signal processing literature and has been shown to be superior to linear prediction for robust speech recognition. In this work we propose two techniques to improve the resolution and the robustness of the MVDR spectral estimate: The first is a time-domain technique to estimate an all-pole mode...

Minimum variance distortionless response on a warped frequency scale

In this work we propose a time domain technique to estimate an all-pole model based on the minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR) using a warped short time frequency axis such as the Mel scale. The use of the MVDR eliminates the overemphasis of harmonic peaks typically seen in medium and high pitched voiced speech when spectral estimation is based on linear prediction (LP). Moreover, w...

Stabilised weighted linear prediction - a robust all-pole method for speech processing

Weighted linear prediction (WLP) is a method to compute allpole models of speech by applying temporal weighting of the residual energy. By using short-time energy (STE) as a weighting function, the algorithm over-weight those samples that fit the underlying speech production model well. The current work introduces a modified WLP method, stabilised weighted linear prediction (SWLP) leading alway...
